Customer Reviews
We use filters in one of Turkey’s largest food factory. We use it as a reverse osmosis pre-filter, we are very satisfied with your product, Miss Lucy helped us a lot, provided very quick returns to our problem. We will use it in our new factory in Romania, I also recommend it to our customers who ask.

—— Jose

PULLNER are good business partner. Nice products with reasonable price, best service, we cooperated more than 5 years.

—— Nisa

In our facility, Pullner's PP Capsule Filter is installed upstream as a pre-filter. It provides stable filtration, reduces downstream load, and supports smoother RO operation. We also appreciate Miss Lucy—her quick communication and problem-solving made the whole process easy. We’ll keep using this product and recommend it to customers in India

—— Shubh

Pullner's high flow filter cartridge has a good quality, we use them a lot and mainly applied in power plant water filtration. The cartridge shows strong mechanical strength and reliable performance. we will continue work with Pullner in future

—— Thomas Ral

We've cooperated with Pullner Team for 3 years, our company use Pullner high flow filter cartridges and string wound filter cartridges for watertreatment, very good filter.

—— Alex Rael

I have been using Pullner filter for one year, and we have met in Pullner company. we will continue work in the future

Improving Beer Filtration Stability with PP Prefilters and PES Membrane Cartridges

Customer Background

The customer operates a brewery producing packaged beer for retail distribution.

Before filling, the beer passes through cartridge filtration to improve clarity and control microorganisms. The existing filtration system used membrane cartridges as the final filtration stage.

However, the customer was experiencing a recurring problem: the final membrane cartridges were loading too quickly, causing differential pressure to rise faster than expected and increasing replacement frequency.

Because membrane cartridges are one of the higher-cost consumables in the filtration system, frequent replacement was increasing both operating cost and maintenance workload.

The Challenge

The final membrane filter was receiving too much residual yeast and fine particulate matter from the upstream process.

Although the membrane could achieve the required final filtration performance, it was being used to handle contamination that should ideally have been removed earlier.

This resulted in:

Problem Impact
Rapid differential pressure increase Shorter cartridge service life
High solids loading on final membrane More frequent replacements
Frequent filter change-outs Increased labor and downtime
Higher membrane consumption Increased filtration cost

The customer needed to improve membrane life without reducing final beer quality.

Pullner Filtration Solution

After reviewing the filtration process, Pullner recommended separating particle removal from final microbial filtration.

The system was optimized into two stages:

PP Prefiltration → PES Final Membrane Filtration

The upstream PP cartridge was selected to remove residual yeast and suspended particles before they reached the final membrane.

A hydrophilic PES membrane cartridge was then used as the final filtration stage to provide controlled fine filtration and microbial retention before filling.

This allowed each cartridge to perform the function it was designed for.

Stage 1: PP Prefilter

The PP prefilter removes the majority of suspended contamination and protects the downstream membrane.

Its main functions are:

  • removing residual yeast and fine particles

  • reducing contaminant loading on the membrane

  • slowing differential pressure increase

  • extending final membrane service life

Stage 2: PES Membrane Filter

The PES membrane is installed downstream as the final beer filtration stage.

Its role is focused on final product quality rather than heavy particle loading.

Depending on the customer's process requirements, membrane pore size and retention performance can be selected according to the target microorganisms and required beer stability.

Results

After optimizing the filtration stages, the customer achieved a more stable filtration process.

The PP cartridge absorbed most of the upstream particle load, allowing the PES membrane to operate under more suitable conditions.

The main improvements included:

  • more stable differential pressure

  • reduced loading on the final membrane

  • longer membrane operating cycles

  • fewer unnecessary cartridge replacements

  • more predictable filtration performance

  • lower overall filtration consumption

Most importantly, the solution improved filtration efficiency without requiring major modification to the customer's existing production line.

Why Two-Stage Filtration Works Better

Using the finest membrane cartridge for every filtration task is rarely the most economical approach.

In beer filtration, coarse and fine contaminants should be removed progressively.

A properly designed prefiltration stage protects the final membrane and allows the membrane to focus on the filtration task that matters most: final product stability.

For breweries experiencing short membrane life or rapidly increasing differential pressure, reviewing the upstream filtration stage is often more effective than simply replacing the final cartridge more frequently.

Pullner provides PP prefilters, PES membrane cartridges, PTFE sterile gas filters and stainless steel utility filters for brewery filtration systems.

Filtration configurations can be selected according to beer characteristics, flow rate, filtration accuracy, sanitation method and existing equipment.
