The HFPS Series PES membrane filter cartridge is designed for fine filtration of water and other compatible liquids. It uses an asymmetric Polyethersulfone membrane with natural hydrophilicity, providing high flow rate, low pressure drop and reliable particle retention.
Compared with ordinary PP depth filter cartridges, PES membrane cartridges are mainly used at the fine or final filtration stage where the customer needs better filtration accuracy and more stable effluent quality.
Available filtration ratings range from 0.02 μm to 1.2 μm. Different ratings can be selected according to the application, from ultrapure water polishing to beverage clarification and pharmaceutical process filtration.
The cartridge is constructed with polypropylene support, drainage, cage, core and end caps. The components are assembled by thermal welding without adhesives, reducing the risk of additional contamination during filtration.
PES membrane cartridges are widely used in DI water and ultrapure water systems, especially at the polishing or final filtration stage.
For example, after RO, EDI or other water purification processes, very small particles may still remain in the water. A PES membrane cartridge can be installed before the point of use to further control particulate contamination.
Typical applications include electronics water systems, laboratory water systems and other high-purity process water applications.
For beverages, wine, alcohol and other compatible liquids, PES cartridges can be used for clarification and fine filtration before filling or before a finer sterilizing filtration stage.
For example, if a beverage contains fine suspended particles that cannot be effectively removed by a 1 μm PP cartridge, a 0.45 μm or 0.22 μm PES membrane cartridge may be used as the next filtration stage.
The actual filtration rating should be selected according to the product, required clarity and microbiological control requirements.
PES membrane has good hydrophilicity and is commonly used for filtration of pharmaceutical process water, buffer solutions, biological solutions and other aqueous liquids.
Depending on the process requirement, PES cartridges can be used for pre-filtration, fine filtration or final filtration.
For critical pharmaceutical applications, the filtration system should be selected according to the required retention efficiency, validation standard and sterilization conditions.
PES membrane cartridges can also be used for filtration of compatible acids, alkalis and chemical solutions.
They are suitable for removing fine particles from process liquids before filling, reaction, transfer or downstream equipment.
Chemical compatibility should always be checked according to the actual chemical, concentration, temperature and operating time before use.
Different micron ratings are used for different filtration purposes.
| Filtration Rating | Typical Use |
|---|---|
| 0.02 μm | Ultrafine particle control and high-purity water polishing |
| 0.03 μm | High-purity water fine filtration |
| 0.05 μm | Fine particle control |
| 0.1 μm | High-purity water and fine process filtration |
| 0.22 μm | Fine filtration and applications requiring very high particle retention |
| 0.45 μm | Beverage clarification and process liquid fine filtration |
| 0.65 μm | General fine filtration |
| 1.2 μm | Pre-filtration and particle removal |
A smaller micron rating does not automatically mean it is the best choice. If the feed liquid contains too many particles, using a very fine PES cartridge directly may cause rapid blockage.
For this reason, a PP depth filter or pleated pre-filter is often installed before the PES membrane cartridge.

PP cartridges are commonly used for pre-filtration and general particle removal. PES membrane cartridges provide finer and more stable filtration accuracy and are usually used at a later filtration stage.
It depends on the liquid and the required filtration result. For beverage clarification, 0.45 μm may be considered. For finer filtration, 0.22 μm or 0.1 μm may be selected. For high-purity water applications, 0.02 μm to 0.1 μm may be used depending on the process.
It is usually not recommended. If the feed water contains a high particle load, the membrane may block quickly. Pre-filtration is recommended before the PES cartridge.
Yes. PES membrane cartridges can be used for filtration of compatible beverages, alcohol and other aqueous liquids. The correct filtration rating and seal material should be selected according to the actual product.
There is no fixed service life such as 6 or 12 months. Cartridge life depends on feed liquid quality, flow rate, filtration area, operating pressure and contamination load.
In actual operation, replacement is normally determined by increasing differential pressure, reduced flow rate or the customer's validated replacement cycle.
Yes. Cartridge length, filtration rating, end connection and sealing material can be selected according to the existing filter housing and operating conditions.
Please provide the liquid type, filtration accuracy, flow rate, operating temperature, pressure, cartridge length, end connection and current filtration process. Pullner can then recommend a more suitable filter configuration.
